The five minutes before you get in the car
Driving a client is the most exposed thing most agents do, and it's the one that gets the least thought. It happens casually — they're already at the office, the first property is fifteen minutes away, and getting in a car together is simply what happens next.
Five minutes, before the keys come out. Get a photograph of their driver's licence — not a glance, a photo. Frame it as process, because it is: “I photograph ID for everyone before we head out, it's how our office works.” Nobody legitimate has ever objected to that sentence.
Then send it somewhere. Text the photo and your route to one person, in front of the client. Not furtively — openly, the way you'd send a meeting update. What you're establishing isn't suspicion. It's that this appointment is documented, and both of you know it.
The second part matters more than the first. A photo sitting in your phone protects nobody. A photo that someone else has, sent while the person watched you send it, changes the arithmetic of the entire afternoon.
Here's the version of this most agents actually live: they get in the car with a stranger, feel a flicker of something, and spend the next four hours managing that flicker instead of selling houses.
The flicker isn't irrational. It's an unresolved question, and unresolved questions don't stop running just because you're busy. They surface as a rushed walkthrough, a shortened conversation, a property you didn't really show because you wanted the day over.
Five minutes closes the question. Not because the ID makes anyone safer on its own — because a documented appointment removes the ambiguity you'd otherwise carry all afternoon. That's the Anxiety Tax, paid down in advance.

But notice what “process” does to a sentence. “Can I see your ID?” is personal and it lands as suspicion. “I photograph ID for everyone before we head out” is a policy, and policies aren't about the person in front of you. Same request, entirely different room.

Write your one sentence down and say it out loud twice. The words matter less than having them ready — hesitation is what makes a routine request sound like an accusation.
